Committee

Hey guys, I’m Joanna, a second year chem-eng at Caius! I’m really looking forward to working with Alina and the rest of our amazing committee, aiming to shape our relatively young society up to its full potential! We’re promising to build our community with more fun, more focus, and of course more food for the upcoming year. It’s been such a privilege to have met such inspired and inspiring people through CUWES and I cannot wait to get to know more of you!

Fun fact about me: This photo was ALSO taken at a CUWES event (the same one)  :))

Heyy!! I’m Alina, a second year engineer at St John’s.  Joanna and I are so excited to be your co-presidents this year. CUWES has always been such a warm and welcoming community and we hope to keep building this close-knit atmosphere for everyone in the society. As co-presidents, we’re excited to help it grow and thrive even more this year!

Fun fact about me: my photo was taken at a CUWES event!

Hi! I’m Amélie and a 2nd year engineer at Emma. I’m so excited to be the CUWES treasurer this year – I’ve really enjoyed being part of this fantastic community and I can’t wait to see what comes next for the society.

Hi!! I’m Mara, a third year engineer at Lucy Cavendish and I’m really excited to work with the CUWES committee again this year! CUWES has always been a welcoming place where you can meet new people and I can’t wait to meet you all!

Hi! I’m Xinxuan, a second-year engineer at Churchill. I’ve attended many CUWES events in my 2 years here and I’m excited to join the comm as publicity officer! I hope to publicise more CUWES events (+instill FOMO) so that y’all will want to join our events too 🙂

Fun fact about me: I eat too much chocolate ice cream

Hiya! I’m Kristina, a second year engineer at Trinity, and will be one of the publicity officer’s on the CUWES committee. My main role will be to keep everyone up to date on all the amazing events and initiatives we will be organizing this year! I hope to contribute to the growth of this welcoming and warm community and learn some useful things along the way.

Fun fact about me: I’ve managed to fall into the river Cam when punting for the first time.

Hi, I’m Antonia, a second-year engineering student at St John’s. I joined the CUWES committee because I’m passionate about making women in engineering more visible and accessible, and I love the idea of using creative outreach to highlight the amazing events we have going on. As Publicity Officer, I’m excited to help promote CUWES events, share inspiring stories, and make our presence felt across Cambridge and beyond.

Fun fact about me: I think that white chocolate is better than normal hot chocolate.

Hi! I’m Khushi and I’m a first year engineer at Queens’! I’m super excited to be a part of CUWES, and hope to create as welcoming an environment for us as possible. I’ve really enjoyed all the events so far and hope to continue that into next year! I’m looking forward to organising some fun events for everyone with my fellow co-officers, so keep an eye out for future events!

Fun fact about me: I’ve lived in four countries!

Hi!! I’m Emily, a 1st year engineer at Pembroke. I’ve loved being a member of CUWES so far, and I’m super excited to join the committee on the events team! We can promise there’s lots of fun up ahead (accompanied by good food). I’m looking forward to see the community grow even more!

Hey! I’m Sofia, a first-year engineer at Queens’. Being part of CUWES has been one of the highlights of my year so far—I’ve loved getting to know so many inspiring people and taking part in events that really bring us together. I’m really looking forward to helping shape more of those moments next year, and I hope to help make CUWES feel like a space where everyone feels at home. Can’t wait to plan some exciting things!

Fun fact about me: Can move my ears.

Hey everyone, I’m Naba, a second year engineer at Trinity. I’m really excited to be one of the outreach officers for CUWES this year! CUWES has always been a place of comfort to me and I’ve met so many amazing people through this society, so I’m glad that I can help out on committee. As part of my role, I hope to inspire more young women to choose a career in STEM to help bridge the gap, focusing particularly on those from underprivileged backgrounds. I believe that diversity is extremely important, which is why I appreciate the society’s efforts in this area and I hope to continue the work of previous committees to help grow our community.

Fun fact about me: I’m terrified of butterflies

Hi, I’m Abbey and I will be one of the CUWES outreach officers. I’m a first year engineer at Jesus and I joined the committee because I’m really passionate about the importance of diversity in STEM. In my role, I will be creating resources and organising events for young people with the aim of hopefully inspiring them to consider a career in engineering!

Fun fact about me: I have been learning to tap dance since I was 5 years old!

Hi! I’m Elizabeth, this is my [redacted] year on the CUWES committee, and I’m excited to be your access and welfare officer!

I’m a fourth year engineer at Sidney, doing ‘double time’ which is where you split one academic year over two (so you take a year to do half the content). It can be a much more suitable alternative to intermission for chronic conditions, but not many people know it exists, so please feel free to reach out if you have any questions at eh665@cam.ac.uk

As access officer I help with running events, fighting liaising with department on how to improve and provide support for people from marginalised groups, helping students navigate access and disability at the university and making sure CUWES is trans-inclusive <3

A couple resources explaining double time: https://www.cambridgesu.co.uk/disabled-students-campaign/resources/double-time/  www.facebook.com/groups/1724280424277742

The engineering department will be submitting their Athena Swan renewal this-coming year (a nationally recognised certificate on inclusive the department is), so now is a good time to push for change. If you have any thoughts, questions, or comments, feel free to get in touch with me or submit via this anonymous form. https://forms.gle/fj1bw6GyUTwfcSk37

Fun fact: I did a gap year where I worked as a medical device engineer for 13 months, best year of my life!
