2024/25 Committee
Hiii I’m Nicola, a second year chemical engineer at Downing. Megan and I are so excited to be your co-presidents! We will work with the committee to continue making CUWES as supportive, friendly and fun as it can be – a community where everyone is welcome and can enjoy themselves. I’ve met so many amazing people here and I’m so excited to meet you all this year!
Hi! I’m Megan, a second-year engineer at Queens’. Nicola and I are the co-presidents this year and look forward to leading CUWES. We have many events in the works (a.k.a. a lot of free pizza to look forward to) – hope to see you there! I hope that CUWES continues being an inclusive society where issues such as the gender imbalance in engineering can be discussed and that the fun workshops can be a well-deserved break from the academic grind. CUWES has been such an integral part of being a student at Cambridge and I am looking forward to sharing this community with everyone.
Fun fact: I have many grandma hobbies (crocheting, knitting, bridge…)
Hi everyone!! I’m Changyue, a second year engineer from Sidney and your CUWES treasurer for this year. I’ll be responsible for budgeting for all of the exciting events that CUWES will be holding for you guys and ensuring that they are affordable for everyone attending.
A fun fact about me is that for all my clumsiness, I have managed to never break/fracture any bones
Hii!! I’m Saakshi and I’m a 2nd year engineer at Clare! I’m looking forward to working with the rest of the amazing CUWES committee to keep it running as a fun and inclusive space. As Sponsorship officer, I’ll be working to secure and organise events with sponsors who can inspire and motivate us!</
Fun fact about me: I’ve lived in 3 different countries 🙂
Hi! I’m Amélie, a first year engineer at Emma. I’m excited to join the CUWES committee and continue to work with this incredible community. I’m looking forward to securing exciting sponsorship partners and organising events with our wonderful sponsors.
Fun fact: my favourite snack is frozen mango 🥭
Hi Guys! I’m Amelia, a 2nd year engineer from Jesus. I am very excited to work with the CUWES society and I’m especially excited to keep everyone up to date on socials and make some cool posters for the events we have lined up. A fun fact is that even though I am an engineer, my favourite library is the AMES library
Hiya! I’m Duaa (yes, like Dua Lipa), a second year engineer from Churchill and I, along with Amelia, will be responsible for advertising all of the exciting CUWES events for this coming year (so make sure to keep your eyes peeled for them) and running our social media pages. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in our future events and if I’m not there, chances are I’m pulling an all-nighter in my college library :’)
Fun fact about me: I was born and raised in Saudi Arabia for 13 years before moving to the UK.
Heyyy! I am Arzina, a third-year engineer and you can often find me cocooned in the library at Murray Edwards. I love being part of the wholesome and inclusive CUWES family and am excited to take on the role of Newsletter Officer. You’ll get regular emails from me and I’ll make sure to keep you up to date with the most exciting events and opportunities!
Heyy!! I’m Alina, a first-year engineer at St John’s and I joined the committee because I felt really welcomed by the society, so I’d like to pay this forward by supporting other aspiring engineers and promoting diversity and inclusion in this field. As outreach officer, I’d love to engage with sixth form students and the incoming freshers to encourage them to pursue engineering.
Fun fact about me: I’m from a very small place called Luxembourg 🙂
Hi! I’m Qi Shean, but you can call me QS; a second-year Engineering student at Newnham. I’ve always admired CUWES for its inclusive and welcoming events, and I’m eager to continue this tradition to create a safe space for women in Engineering. As an Events Officer this year, my goal is to organise more engaging and memorable activities, making CUWES the place where everyone feels truly at home.
A fun fact about me is that my nickname (QS) rhymes with CUWES!
Hey I’m Joanna, a first year chemical engineer at Caius! I’ve been lucky enough to meet some of the most talented and supportive women I know through CUWES, and would love to play a part in bringing more people together as an Events Officer. In particular, I’m hoping to see more chemical engineers in this amazing community and keep the buddy system going strong!!
Fun fact: mint choc chip is my favourite ice cream flavour, FIGHT MEEE
Hi!! I’m Mara, a second year engineer at Lucy Cavendish and I’m really excited to work with the CUWES committee to organize fun events! CUWES has always been a welcoming place where you can meet new people and I can’t wait to meet you all!
Hello! My name is Neela, and I’m currently pursuing my MPhil at Queens College. I’m thrilled to join the committee, especially after enjoying their activities last year. My goal is to enhance the postgraduate experience by increasing their involvement in society activities. I’m also looking forward to collaborating with the fantastic committee members and getting to know everyone here. 🙂
A little fun fact about me: I love ice cream (or gelato) just as much as I love myself, if not a little more!
Hi! I’m Elizabeth, a third year engineer at Sidney! I’m doing ‘double time’ which is where you split one academic year over two (so you take a year to do half the content). It can be a much more suitable alternative to intermission for chronic conditions, but not many people know it exists, so please feel free to reach out if you have any questions at eh665@cam.ac.uk
As access officer I help with running events, fighting liaising with department on how to improve and provide support for people from marginalised groups, helping students navigate access and disability at the university and making sure CUWES is trans-inclusive <3
A couple resources explaining double time: https://www.cambridgesu.co.uk/disabled-students-campaign/resources/double-time/ l://www.facebook.com/groups/1724280424277742
Fun fact: I did a gap year where I worked as a medical device engineer for 13 months, best year of my life!
